چکیده

The nearly perfectly matched layer (NPML) method has been successfully applied to electromagnetic and elastodynamic wave equations including elastic isotropic and anisotropic media types to absorb spurious arrivals reflected from introduced boundaries in a number of numerical solution methods. It has been shown to be extremely satisfactory for this purpose. In this paper, a first-order velocity-stress-pressure system with NPML is obtained from Biot’s equations. A staggered-grid finite-difference method with fourth-order accuracy in space and second-order accuracy in time is developed to simulate seismic wave propagation in a 2D fluidsaturated poroelastic media. The absorbing performance of NPML is investigated by wavefield snapshots, waveform and energy decay measurements in numerical experiments. The numerical results demonstrate that NPML suppresses the spurious reflections in a highly effective manner. ρ ρ λ μ μ α ( ) ( ) ( ) ∂ + ∂ = + ∂ ∂ + ∂ + ∂ ∂ u w

The application of the perfectly matched layer in numerical modeling of wave propagation in poroelastic media

The perfectly matched layer (PML) was first introduced by Berenger as a material absorbing boundary condition (ABC) for electromagnetic waves. In this paper, a method is developed to extend the perfectly matched layer to simulating seismic wave propagation in poroelastic media. This nonphysical material is used at the computational edge of a finite-difference algorithm as an ABC to truncate unb...

Acoustic detection of buried objects in 3-D fluid saturated porous media: numerical modeling

Acoustic waves can be a viable tool for the detection and identification of land mines, unexplored ordnance (UXO), and other buried objects. Design of acoustic instruments and interpretation and processing of acoustic measurements call for accurate numerical models to simulate acoustic wave propagation in a heterogeneous soil with buried objects. Compared with the traditional seismic exploratio...

A staggered-grid finite-difference method with perfectly matched layers for poroelastic wave equations.

A particle velocity-strain, finite-difference (FD) method with a perfectly matched layer (PML) absorbing boundary condition is developed for the simulation of elastic wave propagation in multidimensional heterogeneous poroelastic media. Instead of the widely used second-order differential equations, a first-order hyperbolic leap-frog system is obtained from Biot's equations. To achieve a high a...

An Algorithm for Modeling and Interpretation of Seismoelectric Data

Generally speaking, seismoelectric modeling is a prospecting method based on seismic and electromagnetic waves, in which waves generated by a seismic source at the boundary of the two environments generate a relative fluid-solid motion formed as a result of antagonism between the elastic properties of the environment with the saturated fluid. This research has as its objective, a study of the e...

SMART: Robust absorbing layer and S-waves filtering for acoustic anisotropic wave simulation

At the exploration scale, the simulation of seismic wave propagation in the subsurface requires using absorbing boundary conditions. For the last twenty years, the method of choice has been the Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) method. PML are easy to implement and remarkably accurate. However, in certain situations such as the simulation of seismic waves in anisotropic media, the PML method become...
